The United States and Iran could be heading toward a second round of negotiations as diplomatic efforts intensify ahead of the expiration of a fragile ceasefire, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Recent high-level talks held in Islamabad ended without a final agreement after marathon discussions, but both sides signaled that dialogue is not over. Officials involved in the negotiations said there has been “some progress,” particularly on nuclear-related issues, though key disagreements remain unresolved.

Sources indicate that a new round of talks could take place as early as Thursday, with mediators working urgently to bring both sides back to the table before the current ceasefire expires next week. The truce, agreed earlier this month, was designed to create space for diplomacy and prevent further escalation after weeks of conflict.

Despite the lack of a breakthrough, both Washington and Tehran have left the door open for continued engagement. U.S. officials have emphasized preventing Iran from advancing its nuclear program, while Iran continues to demand sanctions relief and recognition of its nuclear rights.

Regional mediators, including Pakistan and other countries, are actively pushing for renewed negotiations, expressing cautious optimism that a deal could still be reached before the ceasefire deadline.
